Empower with Code is dedicated to providing  girls around the world with the exposure, encouragement, opportunities and platform to achieve successful careers in science and technology.

Our vision is to promote gender diversity in the science and technology field.

Currently only 18% of all computer science graduates are women and only 0.4% of high-school girls express interest in majoring in Computer Science. Empower with Code strives to close this gender gap. By exposing our girls to real-life and on-screen role models, Empower With Code aims to encourage girls to pursue computer science. We inspire our girls by introducing them to our guest speakers, mentors, and instructors who are leaders in their fields.

Empower with Code's aim is to promote gender diversity in the science and technology field and provide girls ages 7-18 with a better understanding of careers in technology. Our curriculum provides girls with a wide range of coding experience— giving them the hard and soft skills needed to become the technologists of tomorrow. Empower with Code's education initiative ranges from programming fundamentals to mobile App development and exposure to real-world technologies. We involve engineers, developers, executives, and entrepreneurs to teach and motivate the next generation.

According to a projection by The U.S. Department of Labor, there will be 1.4 million computer specialist job openings by 2020. To reach gender parity, women must fill half of these positions, 700,000 computing jobs, in 4 years. In order to close the gender gap in technology,  we have to empower girls to confidently pursue computer science by equipping them with the 21st century tools for innovation and social change. When our girls are empowered, there is nothing stopping them from becoming the engineers and technologists of tomorrow.

According to a study cited in Computer Science For All by Megan Smith, nine out of ten parents want their children to study computer science. The study lists academic exposure as one of the top three factors that impact whether girls will go on to study computer science. Empower with Code will fill this lack of academic exposure. We will enlighten these girls, introducing them to the endless possibilities computer science and technology have to offer. 

By joining Empower with Code, you begin a path to success. This path is not only for our girl clubs, but also for our student interns. Our student interns are involved in every aspect of Empower with Code, from preparing courses to outreach and mentorship. Our internships expose students to the fast-paced world that they will be a part of in the future, and allows them to pass the torch to our club members.
